Joyeria Acosta
Family Tradition Acosta Jewelers follows a tradition that began over 6 decades ago in Lima, Peru. Amado Rojas Rodriguez, Luis' uncle, began working in the jewelry industry in the 1940's. In 1986 while still in school, 13 year-old Luis studied the art of jewelry fabrication and design with his father Juan Acosta and helped run the family jewelry business. As an adult in 1991, Luis opened his own jewelry studio in Lima. Despite its success, Luis came to Denver, Colorado in 1996, so that he could share the fascinating cultures of Peru and South America with their North American neighbors. When Luis arrived in Denver, one of his first purchases was a jeweler's bench. During his 10 years here, he acquired a variety of equipment while honing his skills in jewelry repairs and designs. He worked in the production department of a local jewelry company and studied wax carving with some of the top American designers in the industry. He continues to take jewelry classes in the metro area and around the country to improve his skills and learn the latest techniques. South America While Luis is hard at work managing his Denver store, his uncle Claudio is the owner of Joyeria Acosta in Miraflores, an upscale neighborhood in Lima, Peru. Claudio specializes in Peruvian jewelry including beautiful 18 karat gold Inca designs. Some of his pieces are also available at Acosta Jewelers in Denver. Claudio has been selling jewelry in Lima for several years and is Luis' overseas partner. If you decide to vacation in Peru, don't forget to visit his store in Lima. |
